Wearing Braces

Orthodontic treatment is an investment into your smile and oral health. It is also a major event and can impact many different aspects of your life. During your initial consultation, Dr. Richards will discuss your oral health, review different treatment options with you and help you consider if you wearing braces or receiving other types of treatment will impact your smile and day-to-day life.

The treatment options we will discuss with you may include:

Types of Braces

Our experienced orthodontist will review your treatment options with you as part of your initial visit. Different types of braces have different benefits, and some types of treatment may be more beneficial to you than others. Here are a few types of braces that may be recommended:

Orthodontic Appliances

Dr. Richards may recommend the use of an appliance to supplement your regular treatment and help align your teeth. Appliances such as the Carriere® appliance, headgear or TADs help perform specific tooth movements to correct issues and improve your oral health. A retainer is used to help maintain your smile after your treatment is completed. If an orthodontic appliance is needed, we will discuss your options with you to determine which type of appliance is right for you.

Treatment Time

Orthodontic treatment can take anywhere from six to 30 months to complete. On average, the treatment takes about 22 months to complete. We will provide you with an estimated timeline when you begin treatment.

Oral Hygiene & Regular Dental Visits

Maintaining good oral hygiene is more important than ever while wearing braces! Our team will help you learn the best ways to brush and floss during your treatment. We also encourage you to make and keep regular dental appointments for cleanings and exams to ensure you are receiving the care you need to keep your mouth and smile healthy.
